ODOT Continues to Fight Winter Weather

The Ohio Department of Transportation said road conditions are improving in some areas, but the encourage motorists to avoid travel if possible.

The slow moving system continues to drop snow on the area. ODOT’s goal is to make the roads passable not perfect. Until roads are clear they’ll continue with 12 hour shifts. An ODOT spokesperson said because they weren’t able to pre-treat roadways the job is an uphill battle.

“And when you do that pretreating it creates a bond on the pavement that way when you do put salt down, when the storm starts it gets the salt activated and working better, so without that pretreating we almost have to work and be reactive as soon as the freezing rain hits,” said ODOT Spokesperson Morgan Overbey.

Overbey said when we’re in an active storm be patient with road crews.

“Some of these crews their routes are forty miles long so if you can imagine going forty miles at 25-30 miles per hour and treating the roadway and sometimes having to stop and fill up with salt or brine or anything like that it’s going to take quiet a while to make one pass on a route,” said Overbey.

ODOT officials said to if you do venture out drive with caution.
