Ohio Burn Ban Begins March 1st
We visited the Zanesville Fire Department to learn more about the fire ban.
Zanesville Firefighter Patrick Stanberry said that its important to keep fires small and to always be present during your fires.
“The burn ban is put in place due to the fact that in the spring there is a lot of foliage that is still dead and dry, so small fires can potentially get out of control quickly,” said Stanberry.
Stanberry also said that it’s extremely important to follow these guidelines because if you are caught burning during the time of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. you can potentially receive a fine or citation from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
He also said that it’s very important to only burn natural wood materials and yard waste. Burning other materials such as tires, treated wood, and trash is not only bad for the environment, but can potentially get you a fine too.
