Ohio State announces new head basketball coach
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After firing 13-year head coach Thad Matta on Monday, Ohio State has found their new guy.
Athletic Director Gene Smith announced that OSU has hired Butler coach Chris Holtmann. The 45-year-old Holtmann has been the Bulldog’s head coach for the past three seasons. In that time he complied a record of 70-31 and took Butler to the NCAA tournament every season.
“Chris is focused on academics, is a high-integrity person, a relentless recruiter with Midwestern ties and a proven winner,” Smith said on ohiostatebuckeyes.com.
ESPN reports say it’s an eight year deal and he’ll receive $3 million a season. Ohio State is expected to hold a press conference Monday at 11 a.m. to welcome Holtmann.
