Pair of former Buckeyes staying in the Buckeye state
ARLINGTON, TX — A couple of former Ohio State Buckeyes will be staying in the Buckeye state to continue their professional careers.
After drafting Baker Mayfield #1 overall, the Cleveland Browns selected former Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward with the 4th overall pick of the NFL Draft. Ward was a consensus top-10 pick, and the highest rated cornerback in the draft.
Ward is known for his press coverage skills, and elite speed. Despite his size, he is also among the most physical corners in the draft. Ward should step in and make an immediate impact in a Cleveland secondary which struggled in 2017. And he may be tested right away, as the Browns go up against Antonio Brown and the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 1.
And Ward’s teammate in Columbus Billy Price will head down 71 to Cincinnati to play for the Bengals after he was selected 21st overall in Thursday night’s first round.
Price was limited in his pre-draft workouts due to a torn pectoral muscle that he suffered at the NFL combine. However teams were notified prior to the draft that Price would be ready for training camp in July without restrictions.
Despite his injury, Price was one of the most durable players in his four years at Ohio State. Price set the school record for most starts in a career with 55, including the school’s record for most consecutive starts with 35.
Rounds two and three of the NFL draft will be held on Friday night.
