Park District Receives Sizable Donation

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-The Muskingum Valley Park District received a sizable donation from retired area Dr. Carl Schowengerdt.
The $100,000 donation will be spent on maintaining and servicing recreational trails. Executive Director Russell Edgington says the donation came at a perfect time.
“The current donation is actually gonna be used for the Muskingum Recreational Trail, that trail is actually the first that was constructed by the Park District. It runs from the Village of Dresden down to Ellis Dam. There are two sections of that dam that are not paved, and we are working right now with the Ohio Department of Transportation,” Edgington said from his office.
Dr. Schowengerdt has been a friend of the park district for many years. His donation came as a great honor to all those involved.
“I guess the term would be, just, it was thrilling to receive a donation like that. We have discovered that Muskingum County residents are very generous. We recruited probably close to $50,000 of community donations for Westview Community Park and those came in the form of smaller checks. One of the unique things with this particular gift is there are people out there in the community that are passionate about the quality of life issues,” Edgington said of his gratitude.
Dr. Schowengerdt will be donating sizable portions of his estate to the park district for many years to come.
