Paving Projects To Begin

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-The end of winter and onset of spring means the city of Zanesville is beginning its yearly street paving.

Last year the city did over 1.5 million dollars in paving and street fillings. This year the city has plans to refurbish several notable roadways.

“I can definitely tell you, for example, that we will be doing all of Dryden Road from Pershing to Luck. We have a project on South Street where in addition to paving we’re doing new lighting fixtures and bearing the utilities to comply with our downtown plan. Then we have other areas in the south of Pine street, then we have Adam’s Circle, South Street, Fairview Road.”, Mayor Don Mason told WHIZ.

Cost for the city’s projects is met through a mix of taxes. The city expects to be able to meet all expenses.

“It’s important for people to know that a portion of it actually comes from income tax, and what we’re looking at here, and some of this is somewhat nebulous. With 2020 what it was, we’re looking to see what kind of refunds we’ll be issuing based on people changing their work habits in 2020. I believe they have until May 15th to file for their refunds. The other portion actually comes from gasoline tax.” , Mason continued.

The city wants citizens to report potholes to the city’s street department at 740-455-0601.
