Pawsitive Partner Award and Pet of the Week: Meet Ryder

Unnamed (8)

ZANESVILLE, OH- The Animal Shelter Society’s starting the new year off by thanking a local business that helps support their work.

The Winerak and its owner Mike Alfman was presented the “Pawsitive” Partner Award. Alfman said his support of the shelter comes from wanting to give animals their best life.

“You know, I was talking to my sister yesterday and we had a dog when we were kids and that dog didn’t have the best life. Things have changed for animals and how we treat animals and there are more laws out there to protect animals and I guess my memories, he wasn’t abused or anything but I think he could’ve had a better life. It’s what I hope for a dog when I see it being mistreated or a cat that’s a stray or whatever it might be I just hope they’re treated better than they are.”

One pet that needs your help right now is Ryder. He’s an 8-month old Rottweiler/Beagle who loves running in big open areas and enjoys snacking on french fries. Executive Director at the Animal Shelter Society April Cohagen Gibson spoke more about Ryder.

“The great thing about Ryder is that he likes everything and everyone. He doesn’t have a problem with other dogs large or small, cats, there may be a little chase there but I don’t it’s going to be a detrimental chase.”

If you would like to adopt Ryder or any other pet at the shelter you can visit the Animal Shelter’s website at animalsheltersociety.org. And don’t forget the “Just Kitten Around” Comedy Club is happening next Friday at Bryan’s Place. Tickets are $20 and the doors open at 6 pm.
