Perry County Sheriff’s Office receives K-9 bulletproof vest

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio – ‘Vested Interest in K9s’ donated a bulletproof vest to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office for their two-year-old dog named Argo. The vest can cost up to $2,000 and Sgt. David Briggs said it’s the same vest that the deputies wear only modified to fit a dog.

Argo is the only dog in the Perry County K-9 unit and Sgt. Briggs said the vest will help with Argo’s safety when he goes into dangerous situations.

“He plays a huge role with everything we do,” said Sgt. Briggs about Argo. “He’s a huge crime deterrent. People that think about resisting, change their mind when they hear the dog. They think about running, they change their mind when they hear Argo.”

Argo was purchased from Germany and has served with the sheriff’s office for a year now. Sgt. Briggs said that Argo is with him 24 hours a day, seven days a week and that Argo’s accomplishment’s are second to none.

He’s got over a half a million dollars in narcotics seizers in his first year of service,” said Sgt. Briggs. “He’s got three criminal apprehensions and a successful track where he was able to locate three missing juveniles in Perry State Forrest. He picked up a track that was four hours old and followed it into the woods.”

Sherriff Barker said that Argo cost $10,000, including his training, and was paid for entirely by generous donations from Perry County residents.
