Philo riding momentum into regional championship game

DUNCAN FALLS, Ohio – It’s always difficult to beat the same team twice in a year, but if Philo wants to advance to the state final four for the first time in school history, that’s exactly what they have to do.
This Friday the Electrics will take on MVL foe John Glenn. It’s a rematch of a week four game that saw Philo down John Glenn 28-17 behind superior play from their quarterback Isaac Gill. In that game Gill intercepted three passes on defense, returned one of the picks for a 103 yard touchdown, he ran for two touchdowns, and passed for a score.
However, seventh year Philo head coach Dirk Lincicome knows that a lot has changed since that first matchup.
“They’ve improved. They are a lot better then they were in week four. That was a whole football season ago. Their guys are playing at an extremely high level right now,” said Lincicome.
The Electrics finished the regular season 7-3 and got into the playoffs as the seven seed in region 15. They’ve come out and won both of their post season games by double digits – beating St. Clairsville 31-13 and previously undefeated Indian Valley 34-6.
Lincicome knows they’ll have to keep up that intensity to slow down a Little Muskie offense that averages 41 points per game.
“The Heacock kids has been lights out all year. The Bonner kid is a machine. Their receivers are extremely talented and fast. They catch the football and work well together. They are a really good team,” said Lincicome.
The winner of Friday’s game will move on to play the winner of the Clinton-Massie vs. Wyoming game in the DIV state semi final.
Friday’s kickoff between the Little Muskies and the Electrics will be at 7:30 p.m. from Sulsberger Stadium. It will air on Z92 Radio.
