Radon Program at Rambo Memorial Health Center

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – There is an invisible and odorless radioactive gas that could be making its way up through soil into your home.
Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Health Educator Grant Seredick said Licking County has the highest amount of Radon in the State of Ohio.
“Our County Health Department in Licking County, we actually run a program. We have a grant to service 27 Counties in our Region and so Muskingum County is located in that and we just go through do presentations, awareness, advertising for Radon and also getting people to just test their homes,” Seredick said.
Rambo Memorial Health Center and Muskingum Respiratory Care Association partnered up with the Licking County Health Department to provide a Radon Program. This will be an informational session about the gas, how it relates to lung cancer and how to test your home.
“Sit it in your home. Let it sit for about three days and then you just package it up, send it into the lab and they’ll give you a reading. The only thing you want to consider before the test starts is you want to have your home closed up so no windows and doors open for a significant period of time. You can go in and out of your home as you wish but other than that just kind of keep your house closed up and then continue that process throughout the duration of the test,” Seredick said.
Once you complete the test, Seredick recommends re-testing your home to be safe and then contacting a Mitigator who will have a license to remove the Radon. The program at Rambo Memorial Health Center takes place on Thursday, March 21st at 6:00 p.m.
