Records Center Working To Consolidate

The Muskingum County Records Center is using new technology in an effort to save space.

Just a quick glance in the records center and you’ll see paper records as far as the eye can see. Well, with the purchase of the Scan-Diva the process of getting these records scanned into a digital database is underway.

“The scanner allows us to scan the big old documents, the books, the documents. It’ll free up more space in our records center, and consolidate,” said Muskingum County Commissioner, Todd Sands. “Therefore, we’re not building another building, spending county money. So we’re spending money in technology and saving space.”

To continue with the theme of saving space. The Muskingum County Records Center is also working to consolidate the boxes within the records center.
“After analyzing the boxes within the records center, we have found that a lot of the boxes were not being filled to capacity. So therefore after going through the boxes, 40 pounds is basically the limit to these boxes, we’re finding that we’re saving up to 50% of the space. So this is a big deal for our records center, so we’re really happy about that,” said Sands.

According to Sands the consolidation process could take up to two years, but says the project is worth the time.
