Remembrance for the Veitname Veterans

Area residents got a chance to remember those who served in the Vietnam War by visiting ‘The Moving Wall’. It’s on display at the Perry County Fairgrounds this weekend.
‘The Moving Wall’ is a half-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall located in Washington D.C. ‘The Moving Wall’ started traveling on display in 1984 after the founding members of the moving museum wanted to recreate a replica for those who couldn’t see the monument in Washington D.C.
Chairman of Perry County Moving Wall Committee, Dave Kiener, said this is the second time in the last ten years that ‘The Moving Wall’ came to Perry county and locals have shown their support throughout the process.
“The response was overwhelming,” said Kiener. “We were happy to find that when we presented our idea that we’re bringing the wall back it was enthusiastic from the people we spoke with.”
Whether visiting the Vietnam War Memorial or visiting ‘The Moving Wall,’ the only difference seems to be the height, everything else down to the names and columns are the same.
“The size is one thing my moving wall has a maximum height of six feet at it’s highest point and the one in Washington I believe is 10 feet,” said Kiener. “So that four feet doesn’t really make any difference it’s the whole impact, it’s the same, the people are the same, [and] the emotion is the same.”
‘The Moving Wall’ is at the Perry County Fairgrounds until Monday, August 29. Saturday, August 27 at 11:00 is the parade which started at the Perry County Memorial Square traveled down Broadway and ended at the fairgrounds to start the day.
