ZANESVILLE, Ohio – James and the Giant Peach, Jr. opened this weekend at the Renner Theater.

The musical is a story of James, played by 9-year-old, Sam Rupe, an orphan that is sent to live with two aunts that are not interested in taking care of him. He has no friends, but musical director, Darla Revennaugh, told us how he ends up finding them in an unusual place.

“He has no friends, and no real family, said Revennaugh. He finds friends in an unusual place when he meets the insects in a giant peach. From there on, we are off an adventure that only Roald Dahl could dream up.”

The cast consisted of many young actors and actresses representing nine different school districts. Rehearsals kept them very busy, and their hard work finally paid off on opening weekend.

“It keeps them very busy. Most of them are involved in a lot of after school activities as well at their home school, said Revennaugh. We are very proud of them, and it’s fun to watch them grow from auditions to production.”

There is one more weekend to see James and the Giant peach, Jr. Friday, May 12th and Saturday, May 13th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 14th at 2:30.
