Rotary Club Hears From Special Speaker

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-The noon Rotary Club of Zanesville met today at Bryan’s Place to hear a special presentation from assistant Rotary governor Timothy Shear.
Shear has devoted the last twenty-four years of his life to helping bring up childhood literacy rates in Mongolia. He says that Mongolia is a fascinating place where better literacy could help the less advantaged.
“It is one of the last remaining pastoral economies on Earth, meaning people, to use American English, ranch for a living. A million of those folks live out in the rather rural area, and Rotary has been very helpful in meeting the challenge of meeting the needs of some of these families who are economically disadvantaged by putting books in the hands of these children that are eager to learn.”, Shear told WHIZ.
Shear showed videos his students have made showcasing their successes learning to read and write. His work in the Rotarian has inspired other members to help by donating books.
“We had an opportunity several years ago to appeal to Rotarians in all five districts. That’s from Cleveland to Cincinnati to Marietta. Any Rotarians that had, shall we say, dusty books might like to donate those if they’re for early readers to a worthy cause.”, Shear continued.
Anyone looking to help the cause should contact the Rotary at 740-819-1954.
