Safety Town’s New Water Safety

The stop signs are out, the sidewalks have been drawn, and another group of preschoolers are taking part in Safety Town.

This is the fifteenth year the Carr Center has held Safety Town, which teaches four and five year olds a variety of safety precautions, including traffic, seat belt, poison, stranger danger, and fire safety. Kids are learning something news this year too, water safety.

“A lot of parents were asking for it. Summer time, of course, everyone’s going to the swimming pools. Maybe doing some boating, things like that. It just made sense to add it in, ” says Youth Services Director, Jenny Sampson.

Sampson says this is the perfect age to expose these kids to the different safety precautions.

“Preschoolers seem to absorb a lot. We do bus safety with them, so it’s getting them ready to go to kindergarten to learn a little bit of things like that. They just seem to do really well with a week long session, ” says Sampson.

It’s a week long process, and this Friday, these 32 preschoolers will graduate from Safety Town.

“The kids get to show off everything they learned to grandmas, grandpas, moms, dads, aunts, and uncles. They love it. It’s a lot of fun to watch, and the parents seem to really enjoy it as well, ” says Sampson.

All four of Safety Town’s session will take place from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
