Salvation Army Grants Christmas Wishes

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A pony, a puppy, a doll house or a toy truck — these are some presents a child might ask for this Christmas.

But for some parents, a pile of presents under the tree may not be possible.

A member of the Salvation Army, Susan stotts — says Christmas applications makes a fantasy — reality. What’s on a child’s list may be big or small but the organization tries to meet every request.

“Sometimes they ask for very small things because maybe they’re afraid to ask for large things. Sometimes they ask for larger and we try to provide whatever it is they want. I had one little boy that he wanted to make sure his sister got a doll. It’s really heart touching.”

Parents can apply from October 21 – 25 and Stotts says there is nothing wrong with any parent to ask for a little extra help this season.

“Really, I mean, there is no shame in that. We have a lot of working parents that come in. And they can pay the bills but that’s about it. So we’re glad to help with the extras for Christmas.”

Children up to 12-years-old can apply for a basket. The organization is also giving away food baskets for eligible families and individuals. Applications are being taken from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 21 – 23 from 1 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 25.

If you would like to apply, you need to bring a photo ID, Social Security cards for everyone living in your household, paperwork to prove custody for children living in your home, a monthly income of your household and your monthly bills.

The Salvation Army is also giving away new coats starting Thursday. Parents and children can search through the racks for the perfect fit to stay warm this winter.
