ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Salvation Army of Zanesville is expressing gratitude to volunteers who have helped make a difference in the community this year. A banquet was held this evening to recognize the time and effort sacrificed by countless volunteers.

Envoy George Bates, with the Salvation Army, says the work done by the organization could never be accomplished without volunteers.

“We all know the phrase, ‘many hands make little work’ and with volunteers, we can do that. We are a nonprofit, and all those things that go with that. But, we could not afford to do the work. They are worth–I mean, I couldn’t even tell you. They’re priceless. They do many of the things we want to do and we just can’t do without them.”

Beth Archer received the Volunteer of the Year Award, in appreciation of her continued efforts to fulfill the mission of the Salvation Army.

“She’s just a very caring person. My daughters went to school under her–and it was funny because anybody who comes in; you watch them they’re like, ‘Oh, it’s Miss Archer!’. Everybody knows her, everybody loves her.”

Archer serves as President of the Women’s Auxiliary and is in charge of the annual Coats for Kids drive.
