Senator Troy Balderson reacts to primary election results

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A Zanesville native could be heading to Congress.
Senator Troy Balderson won both races for the a seat in the 12th Congressional District in last night’s election. Balderson was with family, friends, and campaign members when the results came in late last night. He said the race was tight, but they were excited to hear he came in on top.
“A lot of hugs and high fives and, you know, it was so close. And that made it that much more spirited and that much more, you know, I’ll use the word fun, but it just increased the intensity and the celebration just a little bit more. It’s good to have friends there to celebrate with,” said Balderson.
Despite the wins last night, the work isn’t over for Balderson. He has 12 weeks to prepare for the general election in August which is for the unfinished term and again on the ballot in November for the new term.
“The next step is we’ll regroup the campaign team. We’ll kind of set a plan of what we want to do,” said Balderson. “We’ll look and see where we, you know, didn’t make the numbers that we wanted to make and see what we can do differently to cover the 12th Congressional District and, you know, setting up a different type of ground game.”
A special election will be on August 7th. Balderson said it is the only special election in the U.S. Balderson said he couldn’t have done this without the support of Muskingum County.
“I want Muskingum County to understand something. I won because of Muskingum County. The number of support that I had here made the difference. And I think it’s really cool when the whole community gets behind someone and gets to the finish line.”
