DAYTON, Ohio – The Sheridan Generals are heading to the girls DII state title game after winning one of the wildest games in state tournament history.

The Generals and Norton squared off in the DII semifinal Thursday evening with both teams hoping to make their first ever trip to the title game.

Sheridan held a double-digit lead at one point in the second half, but the Panthers battled back to tie the game at 47 at the end of regulation and force overtime. After the first overtime both teams were still deadlocked at 51.

In overtime number two it appeared Norton had won the game at the buzzer. Norton’s Bailey Shutsa hit a half-court shot at the buzzer and Norton poured out on the floor to celebrate. But the officials went to the scorer’s table to take a closer look. And after a review it was determined that Shutsa did not get the shot off in time. That forced the first triple overtime game in girls state tournament history.

In the third OT it was all Generals. They outscored the Panthers 8-0 to clinch a 68-60 victory and a spot in the state title game.

Four General players were in double-figures in scoring. Jamisyn Stinson led the way with 21, including two big OT three-pointers.

Sheridan advances to face either Bishop Hartley or Archbishop Alter for the DII state title. The game will tip off Saturday at 2 p.m. and you can listen to all the action on WHIZ 92.7 and whiznews.com.
