Sheriff’s Office Waives CCW Class Fee For Military Personnel

Muskingum County Sheriff's Office

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz is reminding residents of a discount on conceal and carry permits for military personnel.

All active, honorably discharged and retired military personnel can apply for a CCW permit without taking the required class. The state of Ohio views military experience and training as an acceptable alternative to obtaining a license.

“They have to bring in their DD-214, honorable discharge paperwork, active military ID, or retired military ID. Basically it recognizes their training that they had in the military, which takes the place of going through the CCW permit training. With that it eliminates the CCW permit class and allows them to get a permit.”, Lutz told reporters.

This program has been in place across the state of Ohio since 2018. Lutz sees it as an appropriate thank you to military personnel for their service.

“I think, obviously, our veterans hold a very important place in our community, and we owe them a lot for what they’ve done for this country, and I think anybody that has signed up to go fight for their country in the military and has taken time away from their families and spent time in other states or other foreign countries, they’ve been through a lot.”, Lutz continued.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office accepts applications for CCW permits Monday through Friday from nine am to three pm.
