COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A shooting in a parking lot near Ohio State University’s campus prompted the school to send alerts warning students of a possible active shooter.

Columbus police say someone shot and wounded a 21-year-old man in the thigh in a McDonald’s parking lot across from campus shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday and fled. The Columbus Dispatch reports Ohio State issued alerts to students around 1:37 a.m. Sunday and an all-clear around 2 a.m.

The Dispatch reports police believe the shooter targeted the wounded man, who’s in stable condition. Police say the injured man isn’t an OSU student.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the university updated its alert procedures after several students and faculty members were injured by a car or butcher knife wielded on campus by an Ohio State student in 2016.
