Small Ballot leads to Low Voter Turnout

Polling closes for this year’s primary election Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. We sought out people voting in the election.

There were only a handful of things to vote on in Muskingum County, and Director of the board of elections, Chris Hamill, said that’s one reason she expected a low turnout. As of late afternoon Tuesday, she did not think voting would hit 13 percent. But one voter said everyone should get out and vote.

"I know it’s a smaller, kind of a local issues right now, but if you don’t have your voice heard, this is one way to have it heard," Dick Pryor said. "And I hear a lot of people say, ‘oh there’s no sense in voting in a small election,’ but I disagree with that. I think you need to get out and cast your vote."

Pryor said regardless if you oppose or support the issues at hand, voting is how you can voice your concerns.

"It’s really at times, I think hard to say because you don’t always agree with what you hear, and you don’t always agree with everything that the politicians say," He said. However, there again, it’s your opportunity to say what you think and to support the people that you think are going to do a better job."

We will have all the election results right here on WHIZnews.com as soon as we get them. They will also be announced on the radio and live on our 11:00 p.m. newscast.
