South Zanesville Fire Department to Host 55th Annual Chicken Dinner.
SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The South Zanesville Fire Department has hosted a chicken barbecue dinner every year since 1961 to year help raise funds for the station.
Captain JT Roberts said that every since the South Zanesville Fire Department added EMT service at the start of May, they have seen a huge jump in calls. Captain Roberts said they were averaging 21 calls per month. In May it was 81, making the need for a chicken dinner fundraiser greater.
“We just started running EMS for our village and township,” said Captain Roberts. “Our truck is an F-350. It’s got a utility bed on it. We use it for our village and our township. It’s just our beginning steps of getting our ambulance.”
This year’s dinner will be held Sunday June 5 and all funds raised go towards equipment for the station. Captain Roberts said that the dinners are $8 per person and you receive a chicken, a roll, and cole slaw. This year they hope to feed close to a thousand people.
“Its just a big tradition. We’ve been doing it for years. We like to carry it on,” said Captain Roberts.
The dinner starts at 11 a.m. at the firehouse in South Zanesville.
