Spaghetti Dinner for Crohn’s & Colitis

The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America hosted its second annual spaghetti dinner at the Market Street Baptist Church in Zanesville Sunday.

The dinner served as a kick off to the foundation’s annual Take Steps Walk in October. Brianne McFarland is the Take Steps Manager for central Ohio for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, she expressed the need to find a cure for the two major inflammatory bowel diseases.

"A lot of times our patients have trouble getting out of bed in the morning," McFarland said. "Our pediatric patients miss a lot of school. It’s a very painful disease, so what we wanted to do is just raise awareness so that people understand what these patients are going through, and that it’s a life long disease. There is no cure, so our goal at CCFA is to try to find that cure."

By having the dinner Sunday they were able to raise money and awareness to help find a cure to these diseases.

"It’s helping to educate more and more people because there are other people that are touched by this disease," Market Street Baptist Church member, Joyce Cooper said. "It seems like everyone knows someone that has either Crohn’s or Colitis, and so to get the word out there that there is a foundation working on a cure and medications that everybody can jump in and be a part of it. It’s great to get the word out there."

The Take Steps Walk will be at the OU Zanesville and Zane State College Campus on October 11.
