Strauss Files As Independent Candidate for Commissioner
Muskingum County Commissioner Steve Strauss has officially filed to run as an independent candidate.
Strauss was appointed to the County Commissioners job in August replacing Brian Hill.
Back in November the Republican Party Policy Committee endorsed Todd Sands in the upcoming Commissioners race.
Strauss said he was planning on running regardless of partisan support.
“I’ve already tried to prove my affiliation to the community, and look out for their interests. I think it creates a great balance in the Commissioners office with a Democrat, Republican and Independent, and I want to continue that for Muskingum county for the next few years,” said Strauss.
Strauss collected over 300 signatures from around the county, and turned them into the board of elections Monday.
The County Commissioner said he is tired of the same old small-town politics, and thinks it is time to look after the people who matter.
“I really believe that we need legislatures and people in public office that focus on the community instead of the party. I think it even goes to a national level that we get so focused on parties and I really believe that the residents really want somebody to look out for them, and that’s exactly why I’m doing it,” added Strauss.
Monday was the last day for any independent candidate to register to run in the November General Election.
