Students arrested for allegedly bringing 12 knives to Philo High School

DUNCAN FALLS, Ohio- Two local high school students are in police custody tonight after allegedly bringing multiple knives to Philo High School.
Sheriff Matt Lutz said the incident began on Monday. Reportedly the two students rode to school together and after school a 17-year-old student pulled out a knife and waived in the parking lot.
“On Tuesday it’s reported to the Philo High School staff. They then get Deputy Chris Merry, our school Resource Officer at Philo involved and Chris does the investigation and interviews the two suspects. Throughout the investigation which ended today we did a search warrant on the car and Chris was able to recover 12 knives, different lengths, different styles.”
Lutz said the weapons were never taken into the school and it’s unclear why the students had them in the first place. He said from what they know there were never any threats made.
“I haven’t seen the statements so I can’t really answer that question. I think they’re more of a collector type of knife. I do know that talking with Deputy Merry that they were razor sharp. So they’re real weapons,” Lutz said. “But again, I don’t know if there was actually an explanation given on why they brought them to school.”
Regardless of if the students meant the weapons as a joke or a real threat, Lutz said his department and the Prosecutor’s Office are investigating each of these situations.
“We’re taking these things, both threats and these material things, very seriously. I think prosecutor Haddox made it real clear that he is taking these things very seriously. These are no jokes and people should think about what they’re doing before they do it.”
The 18-year-old student is facing felony charges of conveyance of a weapon onto school property and the 17-year-old is facing felony charges of possession of a weapon on school property. These are the fifth and sixth students arrested for school threats or weapons on school property in the last week.
