SUV strikes pedestrian in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A pedestrian was struck by an SUV late this morning in downtown Zanesville.

Lieutenant Chris Rice from the Zanesville Police Department said the incident occurred shortly after 11:30 on Shinnick Street between 5th and 6th streets.

“A pedestrian was traveling from south to north across Shinnick Street trying to cross it to get to the sidewalk on the other side when she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Shinnick Street,” said Lieutenant Rice.

Lieutenant Rice said the pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Genesis Hospital and their condition is unknown. Lieutenant Rice said statements were taken from the driver of the SUV as well as a witness of the accident. He said they will also fully inspect the car as well and that drugs and alcohol are not a factor into the accident. Lieutenant Rice said more information will be released upon completion of the investigation.
