The Animal Shelter Shows Concern About Proposed Plans for New Pound
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Animal Shelter in Muskingum County is raising some concerns about the proposed construction of a new dog pound.
The non profit organization worries that since both the pound and the shelter will be seeking support from the community that there might not be enough funds to go around. The animal shelter wrote a 4 page letter to the commissioners. We spoke to commissioner Jerry Lavy regarding these concerns.
“We were some what surprised that we received a letter from The Animal Shelter based on their visit with us about two weeks ago. They came. Requested a meeting with us to keep them informed as to what we were doing, what some of the plans where. They were hearing rumors and issues. They came in met with us. The dog pound volunteer group came in at the same time. They were here to listen to what we heard to say. So, yes we were some what disappointed with the contents of the letter,” said Lavy.
We also spoke with The Animal Shelter’s President of the Board of Directors and one of the authors of the letter Stephanie Hill.
“We relay on the generous donation of this community. This community is awesome they’ve supported us for almost 60 years. That’s is a concern. And every penny that goes into building a new building, every penny that goes to brick and mortar is one penny that’s not being spend on the absolute direct care of homeless animals. And that’s our main concern. That’s a lot of money. They can do a lot of things today take care of animals as opposed to going into a physical structure,” said Hill.
Plans for the pound are still in their infancy. We will continue to bring you more information as this story develops.
