The Animal Shelter Society warns pet owners about the heat

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – As the heat index is supposed to climb into triple digits this weekend, Animal Shelter Society Interim Executive Director, Russell Denny is reminding pet owners to be responsible.
Denny said do not leave your pet in a car, no walking on asphalt , limiting exercise and giving them plenty of shade and water will let them beat the heat, and could even save their lives.
“The animals are just like us, we can have a heat stroke pretty quickly. They don’t know that, so it is our job to make sure that they are healthy. Obviously, don’t put them in cars even with the windows cracked because the heat can be excessive, especially in the next couple of days with 97 degrees. That is pretty excessive. Also, plenty of water. Keep them inside if you can in the air conditioning,” said Denny.
Some signs your pet may be suffering from a heat stroke include excessive panting, discolored gums, and mobility problems. One animal that is looking to stay cool in your house is Jay Jay. Jay Jay is a 3-month-old male kitten who is great with other animals and people. Denny said Jay Jay loves to play, and has a great personality.
Denny added “This is Jay Jay, he’s 3-months-old, neutered male. Very nice personality, good around family members, other pets and he just has a very nice personality, very playful.”
The Animal Shelter Society adoption rate for cats is currently a donation. Russell Denny said Jay Jay would make a great addition to any family.
