The City Clears Roads But You Must Clear Sidewalks
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- It was a snowy and slick start to the day here in Zanesville and across Ohio.
A big snowfall means the city’s plowing plan goes into action. Mayor Jeff Tilton and other city officials want to keep all residents safe, but also need their help.
“If it’s a small snow we use just the street department equipment. But if it’s a large snow like we’ve had here over night. We bring every piece of equipment we have,” said Mayor Jeff Tilton.
“As the warmer weather happens we will see melting. We are asking folks if they can to clear street drains to create a free flow of water. So we won’t experience more significant property damage,” said Public Service and Community Development Director Jay Bennett.
Although sidewalks are public property it is the homeowners responsibility to clear the snow.
“They need to keep them clear so that people can up and down the streets. I know that there are elderly people that cannot take care of their sidewalks so we anticipate some problems,” said Tilton.
“Folks need to be patience as our trucks are out there cleaning. One thing we do ask is please stay back from our trucks because they can not see you went you pull up on them,” said Street Superintendent Jeff Shook.
Shook said the street department is now using more efficient equipment thanks to Mayor Tilton.
