The City of Zanesville Plans to Implement New Water Lines on Dresden Road

It is no secret that the City of Zanesville water systems are old and in need of a major update.
There were three water main breaks in the north end within the last two weeks. Mayor Don Mason talked more on why this is happening.
“What typically happens in the winter time is the freezing, but also in the summer time with expansion of soils, it stresses the pipe system and causes breaks. Then what makes things really bad as we start turning valves and redirecting water that really shifts a lot of the energy into other locations, which quite often, which is what we saw last week, causes additional breaks,” Mayor Mason stated.
When asked where some of the oldest water mains are located, Mayor Mason stated the Putnam and downtown area.
Mayor Mason said that they are trying to look where they can design and do major water line replacements so patches are no longer placed near previous patches.
“We pulled an old plan from 1985 off the shelves, which called for major lining replacements and we’ve scheduled a major line replacement for the entirety of Dresden Road,” Mayor Mason said. “With good construction, we should be starting this year.”
The city is hoping that this replacement will eliminate all water line breaks within that area. Until they are asking for the public to continue to be patient with the city as these needs are addressed and to always appreciate, and thank those city workers, who are working in the cold.
