The Community Bank Hosts Its 2nd ‘Community Shred Day’

One local bank is helping towards the fight against identity theft by offering free document shredding.

The Community Bank hosted their 2nd Annual ‘Community Shred Day’ Saturday morning. Vice President and Office Manager, Community Bank Cindy Jackson said this is a safe way to dispose of some of your personal documents.

“Last year we had collected about 5,160 pounds and we preserved 44 trees and so many gallons of water and land filled areas and electric. We are also preserving and protecting their identity and trying to prevent fraud,” said Jackson.

Identity theft and fraud are two ofAmerica’ss fastest-growing crimes to date. Jackson said by allowing them to shred personal documents that you no longer need could help you in the long run.

“We’re gathering our information from our customers this way in a safe and secure way so that we can shred it and they don’t have to worry about it in their homes. In the occurrence of a break-in people could pick up envelops and or any kind of information and in this way we would have it destroyed for them,” said Jackson.

This event was open to the public and free of charge.
