The Muskingum County Land Reutilization Corporation is Looking at New Target Properties
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Land Reutilization Corporation has three target areas they hope to work on.
The new target area MCLRC is focusing on is the Market Street area. It’s roughly from Underwood up to Wheeling Avenue. The other two existing target properties are the Lee and State Street areas, and the Brighton and Bailey areas. The Lee and State Street target property is about 100 acres and comprises from the Licking River over to the Muskingum River. The Brighton and Bailey area starts at Brighton Boulevard and expands out taking in Munson School.
MCLRC Executive Director, Andy Robers explains why they’re focusing on these properties.
“So instead of just rolling these properties around, trying to get people to do stuff with it, we try to put it into blocks so then we can try to market that to somebody to try and do something bigger with it.” MCLRC Executive Director, Andy Robers stated.
They plan to collect real estate along Market Street for commercial development, abate blighted properties, and infill spotty residential.
The goal for the Lee and State Street properties is to stabilize residential areas, and aggregate real estate for future commercial development opportunities.
For the Brighton and Bailey target area, the mission is to block in areas for residential infill projects and work with non-profits to rehab existing housing.
“So, each one has mostly the same goals but a little bit of tweaks here and there as far as for that particular area.” Roberts said.
These are long term projects that could take 10 to 20 years to finish.
