The Muskingum County Transportation Improvement District Held Their First Meeting of 2023

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Transportation Improvement District met February 22nd for their annual meeting.
The TID held their first meeting for 2023. They discussed past and future projects through the Muskingum County TID. Over a period of approximately 20 years, the TID has yielded close to $19 million in grants through ODOT.
This money provided assistance to multiple projects including the North Point Drive extension from Fairview Road to Dresden, which was the biggest project they discussed. The money also helped with projects that are tied to economic development like the Ridge Corporation expansion.
“This has been a great tool for our community to leverage dollars on projects that definitely needed done, and maybe needed some financial means to get them over the hump and this has provided that.” Matt Abbott, Executive Director for the Port Authority stated.
They also covered future projects. They’ve seen growth in the North Point area and a lot of future growth, so they are working with the City and County engineers’ office to identify how the TID can assist them and the North Point area’s needs.
In March, they will apply for dollars that can help with future projects. They are able to apply for up to $500,000.
“I believe there’s 53 other Transportation Improvement Districts in the state of Ohio that are competing for four and a half million dollars. We hope that our projects are projects that can display a need for our area and have ties for the greater good of the economy and of the people in Muskingum County.” Abbott said.
The TID will know by June whether or not they will receive the money to help with future projects in the county.
