The Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds is Back With Their Yearly Concert

Symphonic Winds Concert

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- After nearly two years, the Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds presented their Old Wine In New Bottles concert today at The Muskingum University Brown Chapel.

The band is composed of local amateurs and professionals that was conducted by David Turrill. He said it’s an awesome feeling to be back doing in person concerts and talked about how they prepared.

“It feels great to have our concerts back in Brown Chapel. The Symphonic Winds did not have any concerts last season, but had a couple of summer concerts that were outside. So we’re really thrilled,” Turrill said. “This group has five rehearsals before each concert. The ensemble members get their music ahead of time. We rehearse. Our last rehearsal was Wednesday here and we had a little touch up rehearsal this morning.”

The program included a pleasant mix of wind band classics like Vaughan Williams’ Folk Song Suite, Robert Russell Bennett’s Suite Old American Dances and more.

“This concert is called Old Wine In New Bottles, which is named after one of our pieces and the idea is that we’re doing a concert of wind band classics. Some of the earliest and cornerstone stable works of the wind band repertoire,” Turrill said.

The concert started at 3:00 p.m. and was free to the public. For more information on the Symphonic Winds upcoming events, please visit the Muskingum Valley Symphonic Facebook page.
