ZANESVILLE, Ohio- After a year hiatus, the rooster crowing contest is back at the fair.

The contest didn’t happen last year due to the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s poultry ban for fear of the spread of the Avian Flu.

“There won’t be as many as they usually are because we’ve had a little bit of rain this morning but we’re having it inside,” Fair Board President Darrel Cubbison said.

The ban has since been lifted and Monday the rooster crowing contest is underway featuring about a dozen roosters.

“They have 31 minutes to show off and crow, and the record was set back in 1977 with 121 crows in 31 minutes,” Cubbison said.

The winner of this Monday’s and Wednesday’s competition will then go on to compete for the championship title on Friday.
