The Wayfarers to Hold a Benefit Concert Saturday
A local band is aiming to help out a former member tomorrow night.
When The Wayfarers started in 2010 Cory Stutes played the fiddle with them. His life goals took him away from the band, but he has always remained close to the group. So when Stutes broke the news that he was undergoing chemo to treat his non-hodgkin’s lymphoma the band jumped into action.
"He broke the news to us and it was just a shock," bass player Nathan Zangmeister said. "Cause it kind of came out of nowhere, so immediately we thought, what can we do to help out because he’s always been there for us even when he hung up his fiddle duties with us he’s done a lot of our artwork for our CD’s over the years."
The band is hosting a benefit concert at Weasel Boy Brewing Company Saturday night starting at 8:00 p.m. There is no cover charge, but the band is having a raffle to help raise money. All proceeds of the concert will go to Stutes’s medical fees.
"He’s young. Cory’s like 25 or 26 I think," Zangmeister said. "It’s kind of crazy that somebody this young is being diagnossed with such a serious illness. It’s kind of scary and we’re kind of all just pulling for him, hoping he gets better."
The Wayfarers are hopeful that people will come out to support Stutes.
