Thousands turnout for 22nd Backwoods Fest

THORNVILLE, Ohio – One of the area’s biggest attractions wrapped up Sunday in Thornville.
The Backwoods Fest was started by Kathy Launder and her husband back in 1994 on their expansive property as a craft show. It has grown every year since and now tens of thousands of people attend the three-day event.
“I love going around the grounds and shopping. There is just so much,†said founder Kathy Launder. “There is more than just crafts. There is clothing. There is jewelry, outdoor décor. All kinds of stuff.â€
This year there were more than 325 vendors from 18 different states. Launder said when they started the event 22 years ago it was much more simple with about 50 vendors on their property.
“[My husband and I] were crafters ourselves and we would go to local craft shows. And my husband kept coming back and saying our property can do this. We can do this. And of course I was a little apprehensive. But now I have to swallow my pride,†said Launder while laughing.
Launder hopes to put on the Backwoods Fest for as long as possible.
