Threat Delays Classes and Voting

There were some tense moments Tuesday afternoon at Foxfire School at 2805 Pinkerton Road after a bomb threat.

A message was discovered on the wall in a boy’s restroom in the elementary school by a teacher that indicated there was a bomb. Superintendent Todd Whiteman says they followed their standard emergency protocol and students were kept in their classrooms while the threat was investigated.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Zanesville and Newton Township Fire departments responded to the school. This emergency also caused a slight delay for voters since a polling place is located at the school.

Board of Elections Director Chris Hamill says voting was delayed for 21 minutes while the school was searched and then cleared. Now voting has resumed and students have gone home for the day. There were no injuries reported.

The investigation into the threat continues.
