Tri-Valley comes up short in state championship game

CANTON, Ohio – A tremendous season for the Tri-Valley football team came to an Saturday night at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
The Scotties fell to Trotwood-Madison in the DIII state title game 27-19. Tri-Valley trailed by a point at halftime. They battled back to take a 19-14 lead in the second half, but the Rams proved to too be much, scoring the game’s final 13 points to get the victory.
Tri-Valley had a chance to tie the game up at end. With only 20 second to play the Scotties had the ball first and goal to go at the Rams’ six yard line. However, a pass across the middle was intercepted, the only turnover of the game, giving Trotwood-Madison their second state title in school history.
Tri-Valley senior quarterback Andrew Newsom played one of the best games of his storied career. In addition to throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns, he also set a state championship game record with a 99 yard run in the second quarter.
Jake McLoughlin played a tremendous game for Tri-Valley as well. He caught five passes for 140 yards and on defense broke up three passes.
Trotwood-Madison out gained the Dawgs in rushing 268-120, and nearly doubled up the Scotties in first downs, 21-11.
The Scotties finish the season with an overall record of 13-2.
