Two People are Indicted After a Major Drug Bust
Two more people have been indicted on drug charges in connection to the largest heroin bust in local history.
Sheriff Matt Lutz said the indictments came after a search warrant was executed by the sheriffs office and Zanesville Police Department joint Drug Task Force at 818 Ayers street. During the search US currency, crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia were seized. The two people indicted are 43 year old Nathaniel Antonio Williams and 32 year old Courtney Shepherd. Williams is charged with trafficking in drugs with forfeiture specifications for u.s. currency and vehicles. Shepherd was indicted for possession of drugs and permitting drug abuse also with a forfeiture specification.
"Two people that were violating crime, violating elements of crime and we took them off the street. Hopefully they’ll go to court and get the penalties by the judges and hopefully they are two people that take the opportunity to rehabilitate and try to find some help so they don’t go back out and recommit crimes," said Sheriff Matt Lutz of the Muskingum County Sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Lutz said the investigation is the result of anonymous complaints from concerned citizens as well as information obtained through other investigations linking these individuals as persons of interest in drug trafficking.
"It just means to our community that we’re still out there working these cases, were going to continue working these cases and obviously we would like for our community to take a bigger role and a bigger part in the proactive approach on trying to cut off the demand for these types of drugs," said Sheriff Lutz.
Sheriff Lutz said Timothy Matson was arrested earlier this month as part of the heroin bust. Lutz said the investigation is ongoing and we will keep you updated as information becomes available.
