Upcoming “Discover Theatre Day” at The Secrest Auditorium

Apo Theatre Discovery Day

The Friends of Secrest and Alpha Psi Omega (APO) Theatre Honorary from Muskingum University are providing local children with a hands-on theater experience.

Through their “Discover Theatre Day” workshop, local students will be able to participate in improv, character building, use props, puppet making and more, according to Augusta Kinzel, President of APO of Muskingum University.

“I think theatre is very important, but when we think of theatre, especially with young ages, all we think about is acting and not so much other things as well,” Kinzel stated. “So I think with this discovery day, it will help students not only build on acting and character building, but also seeing that there are other options when it comes to theatre for students to be involved in.”

Cassie King, the Assistant Professor of Muskingum University Theatre and Advisor of APO also mentioned how the workshops will help expose the students, who may not have theatre programs in the area or at their schools, to how much fun it can be.

“I met with Friends of Secrest. They reached out to me over the summer with the interest in expanding their programing for students in the community and seeing if we want to pair up with them at all and this is our first instance of being able to do even just a smaller afternoon workshop,” King said. “Our hope is to get it even larger in the future to maybe day camps or even expanded week long camps just to get that programming out for students that might not have as much access to it.”

The workshop is free and will be held January 26th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Secrest Auditorium. It’s for ages five to 18 and the workshops will be geared to the appropriate age group.
