UPDATE: Duncan Falls Fire
Area fire fighters battled the cold and a house fire Monday in Duncan Falls.
It happened at the intersection of Main and Millers Lane. Three people inside were rescued by off-duty firemen. Wayne Township Fire Chief Don Alexander told us how they discovered the blaze.
“Our assistant chief Steve Harris was driving down the road and saw the smoke and retired fireman Bill Hatfield was right behind him and they stopped. The fire was all upstairs in the attic coming out the front windows. They got the people out of the house.”
A kitten was also rescued from the burning home. Alexander says no one was hurt. As far as the cause goes, alexander says one of the individuals who was home at the time heard a strange sound coming from the bathroom fan but they are unsure if this was the cause. Alexander told us the extent of the damage.
“It’s the inside. They think they may have to pull all of the ceiling in there because it has the cellulose shredded, blown in insulation and you can think its out and then a half an hour later it pops up somewhere else and just smolders and so they think they may have to pull all of the ceiling inside. The upstairs has some significant damage to it.”
Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Fighters and Genesis Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.
