Vehicle Inspections at Maysville High School

Maysville High School students learned a lesson in car maintenance Tuesday.

The Maysville School District partnered with AAA to give students the lesson. Ten inspectors helped check around 75 students’ vehicles during the event. Director of Safety for the Maysville Local School District, Rick Roush, said the district does this event each year around prom time.

“It’s very important,” Roush said. “We try and do everything we can to ensure the safety of our student drivers here. We have a number of student drivers at Maysville. What we’re doing here today is, they get their vehicles inspected, cover their batteries, tire levels, things like that and the students who do participate also get a free lunch provided to them.”

The event geared towards teaching students how to maintain their car. Traffic Safety Program Manager for AAA, Emma Lindholm, explained the goal of the program.

“Our goal for the vehicle maintenance inspection program is to make sure that kids are traveling safely, again, that they know how to take care of their car, but it’s going to help keep them safe in the long run,” Lindholm said.

If there was something in the students car that needs fixed, inspectors gave students a written explanation of the inspection. That way, they can take it home to their parents to discuss their course of action for getting the issues repaired.
