Vet and Adoption Center talk at Muskingum County Commissioners

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center and a veterinary met with the Muskingum County Commissioners.
Doctor Brian Williams is the veterinarian who is contracted by Muskingum County. He came to talk to the Dog Wardens about the status of the Adoption Center. Williams said he has some concerns about the current conditions of the Adoption Center. He said this meeting was to make sure the dogs are getting the best care possible.
“We addressed the amount, how often the dogs were being fed. How often the kennels are being clean. How often the dogs are being walked,” said Williams.
The Dog Wardens of the Adoption Center answered the questions or talked to the commissioners about what can be done to make sure the dogs receive the best treatment. Deputy Dog Warden Brittany Calihan said they keep the place as clean as possible.
“Well, we spend three hours every morning cleaning and then spot cleaning. I mean there’s only three of us. It’s a big county. One of us is constantly picking up stray dogs we get back, we see poop in the kennel, I’ll scoop it… I mean dogs eat and poop, I mean it’s what they do,” said Calihan.
Calihan said the animals are given enough food. She said the dig wardens and the volunteers give the dogs walks and play time. Each side agrees the health of the dogs, and creating the best living conditions for the dogs, are the most important things.
