Veterans Day Ceremony Held at Muskingum County Courthouse

Veterans Day (14)

ZANESVILLE, OH – This morning a ceremony was held at the Muskingum County Courthouse to honor veterans and their service to this country.

A wreath was laid at the Courthouse while TAPS was played. Members of the VFW performed a 21 gun salute for the ceremony as well. Mayor Don Mason shares why events like this are important to hold.

“In these troubling times it’s important for all of us to remember whatever is going on in Washington, or the various capitols, or in politics, or in COVID, the important thing is we have a strong backbone in America. Of men and women who have served us in the past, who are serving us now, or will serve to protect us in the future. And it’s just so important to slow down, take a few moments to respect them, to recognize them, and to show appreciation.”

President of the Muskingum County Joint Veterans Council Robert Sees shares why he and his fellow members were present today.

“We had the American Legion, we had the Zanesville VFW, they were the firing squad, the American Legion was the color guard. Plus we’ve got numerous members of VFW and American Legion standing here. And we come out to offer our condolences to the families and to the veterans who gave a lot more than a lot of us. They gave their last full measures for this country and for us.”

Many veterans were in attendance this morning, including Terry Kuhne who served in the Vietnam War and Harry West, who served 3 tours in Korea. Both men were recently inducted to the Veterans Hall of Fame.
