Ben Raines, with Ohio College Guide, has volunteered at the garden since it opened and today he and several volunteers used old wooden palettes to create raised garden beds.

“This summer Eastside Side Community Foundation, through the Rogge Foundation, fenced in this lot that had previously just been filled with abandoned structures. I with a couple of volunteers made a couple of raised beds this summer with the hope that East Side can use that for their clients so that the community can come in and use this and grow their fresh produce,” said Raines.

Raines had applied for a $400 grant through ‘Serve Ohio’ to get the funds to help improve the garden. Raines hopes the garden will become a focal point of the community.

“The ultimate goal is to have a place where people in this community can have a point of pride and some place to go and make friends with people you wouldn’t other wise of met. And you can grow your own produce,” said Raines.

Raines said Muskingum County Community Foundation is always looking for volunteers. If you’re interested you can call them at (740) 453-5192.
