West Muskingum Baseball Finding Its Identity

West

ZANESVILLE, OH- We checked in with the West Muskingum Tornadoes Baseball team as they are preparing for their upcoming season.

At the helm is Patrick Reilly, who is coaching the baseball team for the first time. He also coaches the Tornadoes’ football team. With that, he says he wants to bring some of his philosophies and add them to the foundation of the program.

“Enthusiasm and toughness. I coach football here also and we preach the same thing to all the guys. Creating a weight room culture, a toughness culture so that when you come out to the baseball diamond you know it shows with performance,” Reilly said.

Reilly has a roster of experienced players, led by seven seniors. The team says it’s having that experience that is vital toward the team’s success.

After a year that fell short of expectation, West Muskingum took the initiative to get into the batting cages earlier than usual, hoping the hard work pays off this season.

“We started offseason training a lot earlier than we did last year. We got in the cage as much as we could Monday through Friday just taking rounds in the cage and off the tee and I think that’s really going to show and help us this year,” said West Muskingum Senior Hunter Porter.

The Tornadoes open up their season on March 26th.
