Weah, Mendez head US roster for Under-20 World Cup in Poland

NEW YORK (AP) — Tim Weah has been made the U.S. roster for this month’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Poland. Josh Sargent and Tyler Adams have been left off, making it likely they will be with the senior national team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Alex Mendez heads the 21-man roster announced Friday after scoring eight goals with six assists at last year’s CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.
Weah is a son of Liberia President George Weah and 1995 FIFA Player of the Year George Weah. He had three goals against Paraguay in the round of 16 at the 2017 Under-17 World Cup.
Sargent scored five goals at the 2017 Under-17 World Cup and twice at the 2017 Under-20 World Cup. Goalkeeper Brady Scott is the loan holdover from the 2017 Under-20 World Cup roster.
The U.S., coached by Tab Ramos, opens against Ukraine on May 24.
