Week 1 play of the week

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – It’s rare to see a lineman to score a touchdown. To see it happen on a kickoff return is almost unheard of.

That’s why Bishop Rosecrans’ Derek Kunkler takes home our play of the week for the first week of the high school football season. The Bishops were taking on Beallsville on Friday night. The Blue Devils tried a squib kick to open the second half. Kunkler picked up the ball at his own 40-yard line and race essentially untouched into the endzone for six points.

It was one of 12 touchdowns the Bishops scored in their 82-8 win over Beallsville. Kunkler also was given credit for a safety when he tackled a Blue Devil running back in the endzone.
